Honey bee bodies have important healing properties and dead bees have been used for treating and/or curing diseases for thousands of years. The oldest recipe with dead bees found in old Chinese documents was to treat baldness with dead bee powder mixed with honey to use externally on the affected area.
It is only recently when some scientists found chitin in the bee skin that we understand better why this old remedy is so powerful. But it is not only chitin that makes dead bees such a powerful remedy but also many other compounds like bee venom and some enzimes contained in the bee's body.
Chitin is a modified polysaccharide that contains nitrogen and is used traditionally to treat many problems. Chitin stimulates blood clotting and improves the flexibility of blood vessels. It can also be used treat benign cancer of the prostate and sexual disfunctions, chronic lung disease, and diseases of the liver, gastrointestinal tract, muscles and central nervous system. It is used in the treatment of myopia, mastitis and whitlow, varicose veins, joint pain, thrombophlebitis, to stabilize the blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, cerebrovascular disease, kidney disease and stones, and obesity.
It can happen that bees die inside the hives because of starvation during dearth periods or during the winter when there is no food anymore in the hive. These bees can be used to process into bee extracts or bee powder.
